Employer and Trade Union Organisations

The Cyprus Union of Bank Employees (ETYK) was founded in 1955. Members of ETYK are all bank employees in Cyprus, as well as all employees of insurance companies, which are owned by the local banks. ETYK, the only union that represents bank employees in Cyprus, is an independent and autonomous union with a rate of membership that approaches 100%. All bank employees in any rank, from messengers to senior managers, are registered members of ETYK. ETYK is a highly respected union in the Cyprus community for its wisdom and its consistency. Its achievements throughout the years gave to all bank employees an enviable standard, which is considered one of the highest in Cyprus.

ETYK is governed by a 35-member board, which is elected by representatives from all banks from all districts. Nine members of the board consist the General Secretariat, which deals on a daily basis, with all the matters that concern the union's activities. ETYK, apart from its professional activities, is also involved in many other areas that promote national interest and social values.

Affiliations

Although ETYK is an independent union, it co-operates closely with other unions, for any general matters that concern workers in Cyprus. ETYK is also an affiliated member of OTOE (Greek Federation of Bank Employee Unions) and UNI.

INE-ETYK

INE-ETYK was founded by the Cyprus Union of Bank Employees (ETYK) in order to facilitate and develop Trade Union Education and to provide ETYK’s members with high level vocational training. Trade union education, as well as other training programs that our Organisation implements pass through INE – ETYK with great success.

From the beginning we had set very ambitious targets concerning the quality of educational programs which are to be followed. The board of directors and the management group working together in close cooperation managed to tackle all the challenges that arose and lead INE-ETYK to success.

INE- ETYK drawing from the experiences of previous years and conceiving the importance of Adults Education / Lifelong Learning, in terms of trade union education and development of T.U. executives, developed the last year’s intensive efforts towards education and training in all levels of the trade-union pyramid.
